Mailchimp Integration

First, it would be helpful to determine what level of integration you require. The below chart outlines each of the various integration methods available to you. Depending on which tier is chosen, different information will be required for setup. Ask your project manager for more information on each tier.

For Hybrid and Complete Installations:

Prepare Your Lists

You will want to use the Ellington Alerts List Subscriber Export to review your subscription lists and ensure that they have been cleaned of bounces, invalid emails, etc.

Prepare your lists

Create MailChimp account

If you have not already, you will need to create a MailChimp account for your sites at Mailchimp.com

Setup MailChimp Audience and Segments

  1. Navigate to the Audience page.
  2. Select the audience you wish to send to
  3. Select Settings >> Audience Name and Defaults

Under Audience ID, send us the string of letters and numbers as shown above.

Next, Navigate to the Segments page.

If you do not already have at least 1 segment, click create segment and follow the instructions to encapsulate the contacts you want in this segment. Then continue below.

With the newly created, or already existing segment, send us the exact name of the segment. This is case sensitive, so we need to know the EXACT name of the segment you wish to use.

Ellington Required Information

At this point you will need to provide us with the following 3 pieces of information:

  1. MailChimp API key
    • Click your profile name to open the Account Panel and choose Account.
    • Click the Extras drop-down menu and choose API keys.
    • Copy an existing API key or click the Create A Key button.
    • Label your key to keep your keys organized.
  2. The ID of the audience that will be used in MailChimp
    • Navigate to the Audience page.
    • Select the audience you wish to send to
    • Select Settings >> Audience Name and Defaults
    • Send us Audience ID from this page.
  3. The Name of the MailChimp Segment.
When viewing your segments, choose the segment you wish to send your newsletters to. We will need the EXACT name.

Once you have located the Segment Name, you can add it to the alert list interface in your Ellington Admin in the Group ID box for the desired alert list (or we can do it for you).

Once you’ve provided us with this information, we’ll add it to the settings file for your site, which will activate the MailChimp integration. However, the steps below will need to be completed first. And we will of course coordinate with you as to when the integration should go live.

Verify your domain

In order to send email through MailChimp, you must prove that you are associated with your domain.

Verify Domains

Please find the instructions to “Verify domain in Account settings” here. Additional information is also available here.

It is important to note that the domain you verify in MailChimp must match the domain used for the “From e-mail” on your Ellington Alert Lists. If you send from more than one domain, you will need to verify the additional domain(s).
